Hi Shiloh

I think that if aman means 'peace' in Urdu, then it is very relevant. In Klein's Etymological Dictionary of the Hebrew Language the root alef-mem-nun {amn} has a primary meaning of 'to be firm, be trustworthy' and is also the root for Arabic 'amina (= was safe). It is interesting to see that the ancients also fought for peace and security. Amun supposedly represented his followers' safety, even as he led them to battle.

Generally speaking, the Semitic languages have many root words in common, so the rule of thumb is whenever you find similar sounding words with similar meanings, they probably had the same origin.

You may be interested to read Isaac Mozeson's pioneering work "The Word - the Dictionary that reveals the Hebrew source of English" where he shows proto-Semitic roots for thousands of English words.
