Thanks for your contribution.

However, in order to please Mr Charles Pope, I´d like to bring this discussion back to its source: we were discussing the origin of the proposed royal clan that supposedly ruled both Ancient Egypt and the ancient Near East. I suggested that the preceeding "era of the gods" may have belonged to a common antediluvian but now lost civilization of man, a sort of "Ice Age Atlantis", situated not necessarily in what we today call the Atlantic Ocean but in what the ancients may have called the "Ocean of the Atlanteans". Which very well may have meant somewhere in the Far East.

Intuitively I felt that the Ancient Egyptian word for "east", iab-t, pointed, so to speak, in an ancient direction, as well as the Hebrew word for "east", qedem. I wrote:

…the Hebrew word for "east", qedem, also carries the meaning "aforetime, ancient, before"! (See Strong´s Dictionary 6924). For example, it is used in Genesis 2:8: "And the LORD God planted a garden eastward (qedem) in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed."

and:

...According to E.A. Wallis Budge: An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary, the Ancient Egyptian word iab-t has the amazing triple meanings of 1. east, 2. enclosure, garden, and 3. fathers, ancestors. In addition to that iab carries the meaning "pleasure, desire; to wish for" (which is also the meaning of the Biblical word 'Eden').
Thus, the single Ancient Egyptian word iab-t seems to tell us that "Our ancestors came from an ancient garden of pleasure situated in the east."

So what I´d like to do is to find out whether (or not) the "east"-words of the Sumerians, Akkadians, Chaldeans, Babylonians, and so forth, also do point to an ancient home in the (Far) East.

Anyone got an Akkadian, Sumerian, etc. dictionary???!!
