It is important to distinguish between early YHWH and late YHWH. It was acceptable and technically acurate to equate early YHWH with Baal, Asherah and any other individual god or goddess. However, the YHWH cult was eventually purged of the members of the ancient pantheon from which it was originally formed. Late YHWH was not to be associated with the human sacrifice, licentiousness and idolatry that was integral to the more ancient cults.
