Re: Gnosticism, Vespasian and Titus...and Peter

Larry stated:
"...it is hard to see gnosticism in the father/son or king/prince scenario in the Gospels.
Now, the notion of 'the word made flesh' in John, that, for example, is a gnostic idea!"
So, let's look at some Gnostic stuff and see:
John 1: 1 - 2:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God."
Who determined godhood? The Senate? At the direction of the emperor? Was this godhood conferred in writing?
So: What is the meaning of this gnostic material? Vespasian is confirmed as a god and his son is also confirmed. Question: When was this done? Follow Book 3 of _War..._. When Vespasian is confirmed as emperor, Titus begins to kick Galilean ass.
When he is done and the parades begin, we may see (from memory): "Now is the time for the father to glorify his son for doing the work that he asked..."
Gnosticism was mapped onto the material later.
"I just think the gospels came first, and our man Josephus swallowed them up (helped re-write them.) He had big-time help in doing this though. It was easier than you may think, his boss was god (Domitian!)"
The priority argument is less important now as the correspondences take precedence. Yes! His boss was Domitian. Was the result Gnosticism? Or a hiding of the stories as the years go by?
Good post.
