Traces of Ancient Egyptian Culture

In Response To: Ancient Egyptian culture still alive today? (Jerod)

There must have been many, many waves of royal refugees from Egypt. Some fled in the expectation or wake of succession battles, others were deported by conquerors.

The Oedipus cycle in Greece is clearly Egyptian history that was later naturalized to Greece, presumably by Egyptian immigrants.

Although I have never read the Book of Mormon, it is supposedly about an Egyptian who was warned by an prophesy of the fall of Jerusalem, and fled the country.

In the new book, "Tutankhamun: The Exodus Conspiracy," the authors discuss an Egyptian heritage of the Scots.

I recently bought another book called "The Africans Who Wrote the Bible" by Nana Banchie Darkwah. It is written from the perspective of Nigeria/West Africa and is clearly "Afro-centric" in mentality. He is proposing that the influence was from Africa to Egypt, but I think his points make more sense if they are made in the reverse. That is, West African legends derive from Egypt.

As far as ancient Egyptian culture still existing today, the Coptic Church is probably the best example, but due to so many "inquisitions" in Egypt, it must be a far cry from the original. The Copts are officially tolerated, but are often the target of Islamic radicals.
