Great point about Plato and Herodutus being so familiar with Darius. Takes one to know one!
I'll withhold judgment on pure Roman authorship of the Gospels. Also, it is debatable whether of not Alexanders and Herodians can be considered pure Romans. They were Roman citizens, and even of the equestrian/knight class, but were they pure Romans? A matter of opinion and convention I suppose. You also raise a good point regarding loyalties. Were any Alexanders or Herodians really committed to the welfare of "pure Jews". Perhaps they only differed in their commitment to Rome and to the play for Herodian independence from Rome.
