Re: The Sky is Falling
In Response To: Re: The Sky is Falling ()

There will come a day when the big one hits...the "Texas Sized" asteroid....we also suspect that a few billion years from now the sun will run out of fuel.....but statistically we probably, with a little luck, have 5 to 100 million years ahead of us. Little we can do about those events....other than to learn to accept and be at peace with them....

What about the global cooling/warming/cosmic/solar cycles which occur on a more frequent schedule.....+/- every 5,000 to 15,000....the race survives these occurrences, I think to a near certainty....

However, 90% +/- (W.A.G. 1) of the population is lost....the fabric of our "ordered" society disintegrates....and we de-evolve (AGAIN) to a Bronze Age society (perhaps a small cadre of the survivors preserve our collective technological wisdom for safe keeping...to be metered out over time to assure order (and their control of postdiluvian resources)...

Is it possible that these occurrences are pure rantings and paranoia? Of course, we can not know for sure....as the man says though, just because you are paranoid does not mean that people are not talking about you anyhow!!!

Let's say that these events are even a remote possibility, the gravity of the outcome, even if it be remote, warrants consideration...

What is the seminal issue in this scenario???? Is it to avoid the event itself...or attempt postponing its occurrence???? I say no. The seminal issue is can we prepare for a redistribution and sharing of resources, private property rights and sovereignty issues are the core consideration....If we lose land area across the globe because M.S.L rises 20 feet, how do you relocate the population and ensure the continuation of basic services (water and food distribution, sanitation and the like).....Perhaps the biggest impediment to overcoming this threat is the system itself....our current paradigm of wealth administration is fundamentally based on the premise of fear and scarcity....not sharing and abundance....how do we begin to trust that the world's resources are truly abundant and not scarce...how do we as a people transform from beings principally motivated by fear to beings principally motivated by a desire to serve others...I suspect that talking about it may be a start...

(W.A.G = Wild ass guess)
