I'm not starting a revolution here, just trying to understand the ancient world. Some principles from the past still apply, others do not. The world is not ruled by a royal family any more. But I don't think we can say that nobody is in charge either. I picked up a book in the airport earlier this year called "Who Really Runs the World" by Thom Burnett and Alex Games. It seemed to make some sense.
I'm sure there is a better way for humanity to exist on this planet, but how would we ever agree enough to do it. So, we move into the future "organically", not by "planned parenthood" or "optimal design". And when we look at nature itself, this appears to be how everything evolves anyway in the "real world". It's much too complicated to get into. It's a subject for another forum.
