We might imagine that portraits also softened some of the extreme features. Probably easier to make a royal ear disappear than one of those noses!!

I should clarify a point in my last post. Iullus Antonius was not one and the same as Herod the Great as stated in the below post.

After further discussion, it was realized that the primary Roman name of Herod was Tiberius Claudius Nero, first husband of Livia.

I recently purchased Anthony Barrett's book (2002) called 'Livia: First Lady of Imperial Rome'. I'm looking forward to seeing what further tidbits can be gleaned from it concerning the royal family relationships, especially that of Herod/Tiberius Claudius Nero.
