Beginning at what was once Rippon Falls, the Nile River does actually fall some 3720 feet down… on its journey to the Mediterranean Sea.

I would speculate that the heavy rain falls of March, April and May caused the Delta area of ancient times to flood annually.

Hence, both people and water alike “went down into Egypt”.
