Re:LaDolceVita, enlightenment and the "Money Shot"
In Response To: La Dolce Vita ()

I am not so sure that the world is as resistant to enlightenment as you propose. Mathematically speaking I look at it as a relationship of enlightenment being generally insufficient to overcome the moment of inertia of the status quo until it reaches adequate force. The force of enlightenment aggregates over time and moves the status quo in a step function like manner (long periods of little change followed by short periods of rapid change followed yet again by long periods of little change). I believe that step function characteristic is changing rapidly to an exponential function due to the rapid and sustained expansion of enlightenment (or if you like potential enlightenment)facilitated by communications technology....

I enjoyed the history channel's presentation several years ago regarding the most influential persons of the previous millennia. Their selection for numero uno was Guttenberg....I am not so sure that it was the person as much as it was the proposition that those who are credited with increasing the pace of information distribution have great influence on the world( the revelations image of the sharp double-edged sword tounged figure who held the keys of death and hades, rings in my mind on this issue).

Mass media and the internet provide access to information at a rate unthinkable a century ago...for that matter two decades ago....granted enlightenment and wisdom are not necessarily the immediate result of increased knowledge (in fact short term hardships are more likely the norm)....but over longer periods of time increased awareness has stimulated the desire to fight for and protect freedom and justice (which includes, most importantly economic justice)...

The search for truth, including a better understanding of who we are and where we come from that we are gaining from reconstructing our understanding of historical events and persons...in particular in the context of current societal systems that have been built on the basis of "sacred texts"...is fascinating....but the "money shot" is what are the implications of this new understanding for the betterment of our plight today...at least I think that's the where the payoff maybe...

As far as hapiness...for me I struggle..but have in my own experience come to believe that periods of unhappiness are a product of my own ego taking up to be a piece of my own heart and consciouness....Somebody shared with me something a while back that effected me...which had, up until that point seemed to be one of those most important elements of our history which seemed contradictory....

It had, up until recently, always seemed curious to me that the ten commandments were in the order that they were. The first three did not seem nearly as grave as some of the remaining seven...ie. seemed to me that it was far more important not to kill people than it was to say damn it!!!....but as I have come to understand it the first three are essential instruction for our lives always reminding us that we should avoid placing anything....others opinions of me...my own ego....money....her...in my mind and heart as a requisitie for peace of mind....but rather my perception that my well being is assured and is part of the cosmic plan...needs to always be in the forefront of my thoughts...When I am able to hold to that, I feel a sense of well being and piece of mind independent of the external circumstances of my life...but when I go about the business of trying to control the external circumstances I begin to return to that state of restlessness and discomfort.
