Long Live Queen Caesar!
In Response To: Re: Hail Caesar! ()

Akron,

No doubt they were having riotous fun with names. Hadn't recognized the similarity between Jannaeus and Janus, but yes, why not? There is also Jannaeus' brother being called Lathyrus, "chick pea". Was he obese like Ptolemy VIII Physon, "fatso"? Then there is Auletes, "flute player", which seems to have gay or at least frivolous overtones. And Octavian being called "Thurius" and "the Thurian". Or how about Tiberius Claudius Nero being called Biberius Caldus Mero because of his love of drink! Seems like all of these rulers were saddled with some derogatory epithet. They even sang about Caesar being the "Queen of Bithynia".
