Re: Baalbek
In Response To: Baalbek ()

Although I am among those that ascribes an earlier date to the construction of such megalithic architecture such as Baalbek and the Giza Complex than the current academic status quo, these findings are an order of magnitude older, and possibly as sophisticated. Prior to this, evidence of "advanced" civilization in the 10-7000 BC timeframe consisted of cave paintings, stone axes, pottery fragments and red ochre burials.

These sites are estimated to be on a multi-kilometer scale. The artwork and architecture are highly sophisticated, and clearly required a social structure and organization far beyond what we thought was possible for this period. This is two to three millenia before our discussions of when the sons of Noah might have began to call upon the name of god, or when Abram brought the mountain storm god Yahweh down from the Hurrian highlands.

Look at Collins' site at the "excarnation frescos" at Catal Huyuk, a nearby excavation. I think its the third picture down on the left. It is a representation of a man ascending a ziggurat type pyramid, with two cherubim like birds at the apex, presumably to escort the soul of the man to the afterlife. This is 10000 years BP. And yet the foundation for the egyptian concepts of the Ba and Ka, complete with their fetish animals of the Bird, Snake, and Lion apparently in full development- AND with pyramid and iconographic alphabet!

Not that Baalbek or the Pyramids are any less amazing mind you, but this is a jaw dropper. Imagine if Collins is right and this is an astronomically oriented cult of the worship of Cygnus. If this is indeed the precursor culture to Mesopotamia and Egypt, it would validate what alot have said about the real context of some the themes and imagery we find in the old testament. Note too, that this site is where the first examples of cultivated cereal grains and animal domestication occur as well.

Quoting Collins:
"I suspect that the proposed priestly or shamanic-based ruling elite entered the region and came across a basic hunter-gathering society ripe for change at the end of the last Ice Age, and so they simply engineered their transition into settled farming communities. Elevated sites such as Gbekli Tepe and Nevali ori became their civil and ceremonial nerve centres, all as part of the so-called Neolithic revolution or explosion which essentually began here, before spreading out across the Eurasian continent. It is my belief that the trafficking between the suspected ruling elite and the peoples of Upper Mesopotamia is the story found in the Book of Enoch, where beings called Watchers are said to have gone amongest mortal kind giving them the forbidden arts and sciences of heaven. These were said to have included the use of herbs and plants, metallurgy, the fashioning of weapons, female beautification, and astronomy, many of the firsts accredited to the Early Neolithic world in Upper Mesopotamia."

Anyway, I thought you might find it interesting.
