It is interesting that you mention the layout of Greece and Israel as being patterned after Egypt.
Perhaps some clue to this idea is offered in the book "Twelve Tribe Nations" by John Michell and Christine Rhone. As shown by these authors, as well as others before them, there was in antiquity an abundance of twelve tribe patterned nations all over the world.
This recurring pattern obviously had an astrological/astronomical origin. The layout of each nation was based on the four directions, with each direction in turn being divided into three parts.
It seems as if the twelve tribe nation was in no way solely a Hebrew design but rather a widespread idea, practised almost everywhere in the ancient world. Perhaps it all began in Egypt or somewhere else prior to that.
The full-length title of the book is "Twelve Tribe Nations and the Science of Enchanting the Landscape".
