The resistance of academics is only a reflection of resistance in society to ideas that have the potential of completely changing society. It's a self-preservation instinct.
I watched the program again last night. The El-Arish Stele they referred to is apparently a Ptolemaic Era creation, although they don't mention that fact. Although the Stele seems to be a rationale for the end of the Middle Kingdom coming of the Hyksos, some researchers want to apply it to the end of the Hyksos Period. But perhaps the Stela is compositing the two periods. See discussion at:
The show also mentions the Pharaoh Ahmose inscription. This inscription is featured by Ralph Ellis in his book "Tempest and Exodus" to argue for a late Hyksos Period Exodus.

The "Exodus Decoded" program uses a mural found at Thera to support the claim of a Hyksos Exodus. However, if the mural was found under the volcanic ash, how could it depict an Exodus that occurred after that eruption? That is, how did the refugees from Egypt (fleeing the Thera fall-out) make it all the way back to Thera and draw the mural before the eruption occurred? There must be some other explanation for this mural. Certainly there was significant contact between Egypt and Greece in this time period. Also, later in the 18th Dynasty, Amarna was filled with Greek pottery.
