I suppose that Banus the "eastern guru" of Josephus could have been the Artabanus that allied himself with Izates, assuming he lived long enough to play that role to the young Josephus.
I must admit that I am perplexed about the genealogy of Josephus that you mentioned in a previous post:
The fact that Josephus had such a high status during the Jewish Revolt suggests to me that he was a Herodian prince. So, I want to make his father Matthew a Herodian prince, and one with Hasmonean blood. See the following chart (far left side):
But this precise identification now seems strained given the details Josephus provides about himself.
What was the true claim to priestly heritage of Josephus considering the main line of Hasmoneans that dominated the priesthood were defunct as a royal line well before the time of Josephus.
According to the Harper Collins Concise Atlas of the Bible (James Pritchard, ed.), almost every High Priest after the death of Herod the Great came from one of four families. The first was Boethus, which was intermarried with Herod. The second was Annus, now associated with the family of Philo of Alexandria, and which also intermarried with Herodians. The other two were the "House of Phiabi" and the "House of Kamith/Camith". Two other priestly houses supplied one High Priest each, those being Nedebaeus and Damnaeus.
Surely Josephus had to be related to one or more of these six particular families. But which one(s)?
The family of Philo (the Alexanders) may have had limited or no Hasmonean blood. They descended from High Priest Honi/Hanan, who was deposed early in the Hasmonean period. But perhaps the Hasmonean family of Josephus intermarried with the Alexanders.
Perhaps the names (Jonathan) Apphus and Phiabi are connected in some way. But what temple would this priestly line have been connected with during the Hasmonean period? It wouldn't seem to be Jerusalem.
And what is the significance of the name Curtas in the lineage of Josephus? Also, why are the names Joseph and Matthias emphasized in the genealogy of Josephus?
As usual, we have to expect that all of these priestly families were (or became) interrelated by marriage in their attempt to secure lasting power, so perhaps this exercise isn't necessary. Josephus could have included almost any arbitrary list of priestly persons to validate his pedigree.
