I was comparing Paul's goal of creating a religion which could unite Jews and Greeks with Philo's philosophy which combines Platonism and revealed religion (Torah.) You might say that Platonism is the horizontal axis divided by the vertical axis or Logos of revealed religion. And this in some circles would look, symbolically, like a cross. Well, that is just a thought.

A Gnostic who dwells within the bowels of a monestery is most probably a kindly, gentle, spiritual person. But take that Gnostic, give him a church, have widow's donate millions to that church, make that individual a bishop, make him a cardinal, and even make him a pope. That individual would change quite a bit.
