Unfortunately I don't have enough familiarity with Philo's works to appreciate your link to the Inquisition. I always thought of the Gnostics as fairly tolerant. What am I missing?
Anyway, the answer to the subject question (posed in the earlier post) appears to be no. Rather he descended from Honias and Ananias. The resurgence of the Sadduceean part in the time of Jesus also appears to be connected to the comeback of this family as priests in Jerusalem. There is probably more that could be learned or discerned about the family of Philo with a more comprehensive study of his writings in this context.
