I enjoyed my short visit in Istanbul very much, but did not make it to the surrounding countryside. A tomb of Jesus near Istanbul? Sounds like an attempt to create a tourist attraction for Eastern Orthodox believers. And similar to what happened in the West. After the Crusades failed to secure ready access to Jerusalem, the Roman Catholic Church created grand cathedrals and pilgrammage sites in Europe which housed all kinds of "relics" for the faithful. Presto, no more need to make costly and dangerous journeys to the Holy Lands.
