Borrowing Eddie Larry's words:
"the Herodians were quite a piece of work trying to dominate (swallow up) everything (principalities traditions, religions, etc.)" http://www.domainofman.com/forum/index.cgi?read=2085
An enhanced form of dualism was named after Hegel.
In the disputes that led up to the 1054 Schism, main features are the Papal claims and the Filioque, both "enhancements" to the common origin of the Eastern & Western churches.
There may be some parallel, if the Herodians adaptively "enhanced" somewhat earlier traditions.
