The "dying god" mysteries
In Response To: Re: Who Dunnit ()

Erol,

I am inclined to agree with you. After many weeks of research I am coming to the opinion that the source of the New Testament (usually called Q) is in fact multiple sources.

The Jesus story is beginning to look like another species of “the dying god” archetype that was active more than 2000 years ago.

Here is a short list of “mystery schools” that believed in “the dying god”.

the Egyptian's Osiris story
the myth of Tammuz and Ishtar
Merodach and the Dragon
the mysteries of Adonis
the mysteries of the Phrgians
the rites of Sabazius
the Cabiric Mysteries
the Odin rituals

It becomes evident that the mysteries and rituals associated with the “dying god” was almost universal amongst the “illuminated” of the numerous and various sacred schools of thought that existed prior to the writing of the New Testament.

The concept of virtual death and “born again” was a common belief that existed for many centuries prior to the writing of the New Testament.
