For historical movies lovers only, there are a few films on Nefertiti. These are the most known.
-“The Egyptian” (1954), based on the novel by Mika Waltari, with Michael Wilding as Akhenaten (note: it is the best).
-“Nefertiti, Queen of the Nile” (1961). Akhenaten looks like an idiot here.
-“Nefertiti, Daughter of the Sun” (1995), with Ben Gazzara as Amenhotep III and with another idiot Akhenaten, but very according to the classic work by Donald Redford.
-“Remember the Time” (1991), a musical clip by Michael Jackson, the top-model Iman as Nefertiti, and Eddie Murphy as Akhenaten (!!!). Does Michael Jackson try to associate himself to Tut?
Presently there are two movies in project. One is that based on Osman’s work, directed by Hugh Hudson (“Chariots of Fire”) and produced by John Heyman. The second one will be directed by Marc Forster (“Monster’s Ball”), with Halle Berry as Nefertiti. Both will be made and exhibited almost at the same time. I hope that Akhenaten character is played better in these ones.
I think the first one will be more interesting, and the second one more spectacular.
By the way, I found a reference to a novel by Judith Tarr, “Pillar of Fire” (1997), based on Osman’s association Akhenaten=Moses. Have anyone read it and could he give me a summary?.
