If the Herodians are considered to be candidates as the Christ Family, and a Gnostic Gospel of Phillip can be used as a hint, I've often thought of the Nag Hammadi Library in this certain text called THE TRIPARTATE TRACTATE. It refers to a Jesus the half Roman, half Jew that lived in 100 B.C.. JESUS BEN PANDERA. Jesus, son of the Roman Soldier. His Life was extremely simliar to the Gospel One, but a Century earlier. Perhaps this may have been some of the material the gospels borrow from for its theme. This may not fit into the Herod theory, but it is still there none the less. CELSUS and TALMUDIC Traditions mention him.
