I feel the same as you about Raph Ellis. His ideas seem hard to avoid. I think he makes an excellent case about the Genesis Story of Eden has having Egyptian roots. However, I think he should've mentioned more of Sumerian Myth along with that. Perhaps Akhenaten did gather some ideas from Sumeria as well as Egyptian culture. Perhaps the Jewish Priests in reality merged the elements of Babylon/Sumeria/Egypt into one super-myth of their own.
